Welcome to the research group of Dr Mark G McLaughlin. We are a synthetic and medicinal chemistry group located in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.

The McLaughlin group is interested in pioneering the use of alkaline earth metals as sustainable catalysts for a wide range of organic transformations. We are also engaged in structure based design and synthesis of small molecules, and using these to validate new therapeutic targets in oncology, neurodegeneration and rare diseases.
